Power switch
« on: November 09, 2013, 09:37:29 AM »
What kind of power switches are you guys using?  I'm using the heavy duty JR switch on my N5C but it only has one power input/output.  Without going to a regulator, are there any power switches with heavy gauge wire inputs and dual outputs?

I guess another question would be... how many of you who run a 2S lipo flight pack also run some kind of regulator versus just a simple switch?

I don't run any switch or regulator with my HV setups. A simple adapter from the receiver pack which splits into two outputs for the FBL unit. Less complications and potential points of failure.

If you have a non HV setup then it would be a different story. Before I went full HV, I used to run a Gryphon regulator with a pin flag style switch without issue.

Cheers,
Mark

Formeco badger switch for me, nice. Has no contacts Inside so it can't wear out. Little pricey but worth it! Looks sharp to

This has worked great for me.  I'll be picking up another one for the N7.

Darren, that is a nice option with the built in glow plug igniter. Kind of like an all in one if you want the switch, optional voltage regulation and igniter.
Is the glow plug igniter controlled off a push button or an extra channel which allows operation via the radio?

This is what I use as a remote glow plug igniter via the transmitter: http://www.experiencerc.com/store/gryphon_auto_booster_remote_operated_glow_igniter_gab-5500-p-12917.html

I haven't run a switch in years. Not since I had one fail in flight.

No Switch for me, just plug my lipo with an XT60 on it straight into the mating XT60 that has a pair or even 3 sets of 18awg silicon wires soldered to it. 2 pairs of wires into the V-bar, and another pair into the S-bus Rx.

I have this on my N5c for nearly 300 flights now with never an issue, plus the same on many other machines like both Goblins, my TDR etc.

I like being able to turn it on/off without taking the canopy off.

Good solution ... but like anything not without risk, as you are going to be pulling hundred+ time a year on those connector and cables.
