Main Gear Vertical Play
« on: December 20, 2013, 05:20:38 PM »
So I have the main shaft with no play at all.
When I move the main gear it has vertical play.  I watched Chris's video but I can not figure out how to get this play out.  The main shaft has two holes, one for the main gear, and one for the Jesus Bolt Collar.  It is what it is.   So pushing up down on the main gear or the collar has no effect on loading of the lower bearing block with the bottom of the main gear.
I have been wondering about this play and think it's not right.
So I'm asking do I need to shim the lower bearing block/shaft to pick up the .2mm movement. And if so where will the shim go, one way baring side or lower bearing block side?
Again, I can get 0 shaft play but can not get 0 main gear play.
I just don't think it is right.
Hope that made sense.

There should be a little verticle play in the main gear. This helps the one way to release when autoing. Shouldn't be much.

Thanks Chris,
There wasn't much play but just checking.
I adjusted the pinch collar and have the movement adjusted out to a very small amount now.
Just checking

I corrected my post. I meant should have some up and down play on the main gear hub. Not.much just enough to aide the one way release.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong. My build is finished and bench checked w/o blades again and again.
Two things struck me
1. The vert. play in my main shaft only goes away when I pull up on shaft and tighten the green nut.
2. Maybe because its not right or something but this seems to induce a wobble in my head when spun up and no
blades..I don't think the green nut is designed to be secured to eliminate the vertical play!
You guys here are all experts what things should I check for!!!

Go to page 29 of the manual and look at the Jesus Bolt Collar part # 320-411 make sure you have it installed correctly this will cause excessive vertical movement

Also check the boss on the Pinch Collar 610-150
