E7SE tail mechanical setup
« on: January 03, 2014, 05:34:22 PM »
I finished building the E7SE.  The last thing I am working on is the tail mechanical setup.  I have a few questions regarding the tail setup.

1) The E5 manual states to adjust the tail bell crank so that it is 90° to the tail box at neutral.  The E7SE manual does not make any mention on how to set up the tail bell crank.  Should I set up the E7SE tail bell crank similarly to the E5?

2) If I do set up the tail bell crank at 90° to the tail case (similar to the E5), the tail slider would not be dead center on the tail shaft; it ends up closer to the tail box.  The issue is that the left and right slider travels would not be equal.  Is this a concern?

3) At the mechanical extremes of the tail slider, the tail blades end up with 41°/41°.  I believe I read a recommendation somewhere to keep the right rudder command (against the torque) tail blade pitch not much more than 30° to minimize blade stalling, and the left rudder command tail pitch not much more than 15°.

Should I keep the tail travel (slider travel) somewhat sensible, or should I set up the tail servo travel to take advantage of the full tail shaft mechanical extremes?

1 yes 90 to the boom

2 its this way by design. Adds pitch against torque. Unequal throws are ok just make sure you get it all.

3 I always setup my tt synergies to go all the way to the stops. Most fbl units wont give it all to you anyway.
