N7 Front Canopy mounts on E7SE
« on: January 23, 2014, 01:57:39 PM »
Has anybody converted their E7SE stock front canopy mounts to those used on the N7?  The N7 mounts seem much easier to use.  Any issues with cutting the "oval" shape in the canopy that has already been reamed for the stock mount?

Actually it was Alan :)

But yeah it can be done. Does take altering the front canopy holes a bit but I am planning to do it once I do my next parts order.

Helimike,

It was Alan that did to his E7SE. You will have to alter the holes on the canopy not to bad at all but will need to insure that the Canopy mounts have spacers behind tbem. The frame on the N7 is a little wider than the SE so spacers are required..😎

One tail blade spacer was okay but I am going to try two. One didn't seem to be wide enough.

Anyone got close up pics of this they can share?  I'm building my E7SE right now, so might incorporate this.

I will drag mine out of the truck in the AM and post pics.  Have you ordered the posts and canopy mount yet?
When attaching the front plastic canopy mount you will need to have the rear keychain mounts installed.  This was you can correctly position and elongate the front holes to accommodate the mount.  Don't open up the front holes until you have the N7 mounts in hand...

I added another tail blade washer this morning to see if that would help with the fit.  I ultimately went with cutting two 5mm posts out of a frame spacer instead of washers.  5mm ended up being perfect.  Two washers worked okay but the extra width on the posts did make it easier to slide the canopy mounts on the posts without having to squeeze the canopy too much. The frame spacer is threaded onto a 3x25mm socket head after inserting through the canopy mount post (see photos).

The E7 frame and the N7 frame are the same width.  The reason the posts need more spacing on the E7 is actually in the design of the N7 canopy.  The N7 canopy is about 10mm narrower than the E7 canopy at the point where the front canopy mounts attach.

As far as installing the canopy mount on the canopy itself you need to install the canopy posts first.  Check the alignment and elongate your holes in the canopy as needed to accommodate the oblong key on the mount (see photo).  I did need to elongate the hole forward of center.   If you are fitting a new canopy I would do the front mounts first then adjust the back holes as needed.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Alan
