Key chain mounts issue
« on: March 24, 2014, 04:33:13 AM »
Had some great flights over the weekend, loving the N7  :)
However, a big scare when I did some rainbows and noticed the canopy askew  :o
Landed safely and the keychain mount had come out on one side, some minor damage to forward part of canopy near the front frames.
Could have been me, usually really careful to double check that theses have clipped in correctly, even have it as a pre-flight check on my DX9 now!
But noticed that sometimes they lock in hard and very difficult to undo, have to press the pin in and push and pull a few times to get them to release.
Today, noticed that one of the ball bearings was missing, it can only have fallen out not in.
So in my opinion I think that those ball bearings were sticking up, and the tolerance may be out on the small hole that is supposed to stop them coming out too far (all the way in one case).
Not trying to scare monger here, may be an isolated incident but worth inspecting often, I have some spare Booya's so changing to them to be on the safe side.

Definitely not an isolated occurrence, the same thing happened to mine. I bought replacements and put some gear lube on them and they've been trouble-free ever since.

OK, not just me then, this probably needs flagging up. The Booya inserts seem to fit well in the supplied posts but I have the posts in the right size so not risking a canopy in the blades  :o
Just need to order more booya's for the N5C as I robbed them as its not finished yet.

The little white grommets need to be compressed so the balls in the pins can lock into the posts .. after a day of flying they usually are soft enough where it's not an issue .. seems to only be an issue when they are new.

I always pull on mine after they snap in to be sure they are locked in place.

Use some grease on the pins, as well.

Grease is a must, what I recommend as well if it applies and I've seen this before, when you depress the button to remove or install the canopy, try not to release the center button fast.. What happens is the clearance between the ball and the (hole) that the ball protrudes out of is right there on the cuff of being to big.. " keep in mind this is not a warranty issue or a flaw in design! " Matt actually with the inception of the key chain mount on the E5 , had the shops shrink the diameter of the hole because he saw there may be a possibility of this happening. With that being said if you add a bit of grease and pay attention to how you remove and install the canopy. I personally use Tri - Flow. Good luck guys.

Kevin, thats not the issue, yes mine were lubricated, yes I carefully depress the pin to remove the canopy, yes I push it home against the grommet and test by pulling,  yet mine were jamming solid before one of the balls fell out. Lets not forget that these must be able to stand up to a harsh environment and there is a problem if they need to be treated with kid gloves. I have used the other manufacturer type for years, used and abused and never a failure.

I agree with cyprus. There was definitely something off with a batch of them. Gary Lau had his come apart and he hadn't even flown it yet.

Cyprus, Steviepoo, Rodney,
Re evaluating my previous post, I may have come off a bit abrasive, I don't want to imply in anyway that there is an operator error in how you are installing your canopies. Truth is, not everything is perfect when it comes to manufacturing mass parts, something is going to slip by. This is an example of just that! Rather than sit here and defend that there isn't any way this stuff happens, I should switch gears and commend you guys for brining it to the table as what is considered (a heads up). I will say although we are very passionate about our Synergy's shit does happen. Lol  This is the very thing that allows Matt The opportunity to handle these little things before it does intact become a big issue, The last thing you want is someone who has spent there hard earned money on one of these kits and encounter anything less than pure excitement. Matt and Amy are focused on just that, Selling the Experience as well as Customer Intimacy. And that is why this Forum was created. People to share there excitement and there thoughts regarding the Product itself, that's why things get better and better regarding these models..  A bit winded but in all, I hear you guys loud an clear and know that Your in good hands with Synergy and Matt in coming up with a solution as well as taking care of your current needs.

Kevin,

I did let Matt know, when it happened, and he took care of me. :) Excellent customer service, as usual, from Matt!
