Link sizing tool?
« on: October 24, 2011, 07:55:27 AM »
OK, I'm 2 hours and 7 minutes away from calling Ron Lund's and switching my Whiplash order to an E7 (yay!) -- except for one thing... Nobody has a Boto Sizer tool in stock, and I don't want to use the pliers/squeeze method.  It would stink to order the kit and not be able to fly it due to tight linkages. (Obviously it'll fly with tight linkages but the centering, load on servos, etc. will be worse...)

Does anybody have a lead on where I can get one of the sizing tools?  Or would anybody be willing to loan me theirs (mail to Austin, TX USA) and I mail it back when done?

I was also a bit put off by the 5.5 balls and lack of availability of a proper sizer. I searched and couldn't find them in stock anywhere. So, if you know where we can buy one NOW in the USA, let us know. I ended up putting cuts in the spare ball with side cutters and using that as a sizer. It works but not nearly as cleanly as a good reamer. In my opinion the kits should ship with a Boto Sizer... ;)

I did a web search using multiple search engines for "Boto Sizer" and "Synergy Ball Link Sizer".  A few USA retailers list the item, but none have them in stock.

I agree that the tool should come in the kit, given that the links are "non standard" size and that sizing is required.

Thanks, guys!  I've order from Esprit before and trust them.  Sizer on the way!  Now I just need to cancel the Whiplash.  Excited!

Heh, much appreciated, Kevin.  My Boto Sizer from Esprit arrived today, so I'm all set (well, assuming I can get some new links.  Matt never responded to my PM).  There's a chance the die I ordered will arrive this week, but it's looking like I won't get to maiden this weekend  :'(

Steff, nope.  Nobody around here flies Synergy.  Austin, TX has a very heavy leaning towards Curtis Youngblood helis (he's no more than 90 minutes away by car).  Maybe when they see mine, they'll change their mind  ;D

Much appreciated Ralph, but I feel it's pretty silly to spend the money to overnight a set of linkage rods (which would otherwise ship for a couple of dollars via USPS).  I have my Fusion 50 to fly this weekend, so I'm not completely grounded, and there's a chance the die I ordered will show up on Friday, so I'm not going to sweat it.

I have some other minor issues I need Matt to take care of as well (one of the landing skid tubes has a kink/z-bend in it - doesn't cause any issue, but it should be straight for what I paid for the kit, etc.), so I'll just get it all done in one fell swoop.

(As an aside, in case Matt or Amy is reading, I really wish there were a phone number to call for support.  I cancelled my Whiplash pre-order to switch to the E7, but I was able to instantly get a hold of Brian James at Miniature Aircraft for a plethora of questions before I made up my mind.  Sure wish I had that with Synergy.  Not a deal breaker or anything, but I figure it doesn't hurt to raise the desire.)

Link rods on the way. I'm preparing for a trip out of the country so I will be away from my computer quite a bit this week and next. Sorry.

Thanks,

Matt
