Tail push rod not centered
« on: May 09, 2014, 09:09:43 AM »
I may be concerned for nothing- but better safe than sorry.
New N7 build but my 4th Synergy- so familiar with the components.
The problem: When the boom tail push rod is neutral, the front end is off center from the boom (and the relief in the boom clamp). I realize as it moves through its arc it will naturally be off center but my other Synergy birds at least start out pretty close to center.
The issue is the rod end  (part glued to the rod) actually hooks the aft boom clamp when returning from full forward extension. If I set my travel limits to prevent this from happening I'll loose almost 3/16" of tail slider movement.
Odds are during flight it most likely won't hook due to vibration and general movement but who wants to rely on that?

Anybody else notice this? I did reverse the offset bell crank even though it measured identically both directions- obviously made no difference.

In all the pictures I have of mine here at work, I can't find a good one that shows this part on mine close enough to see how much clearance there is to the boom. I know it does run through that concave portion of the clamp but I don't recall ever thinking it might hit.

As for the travel arc, it seems different because it is. On the electric Synergy models the rudder servo is mounted so that the horn is vertical and the arc of the ball is vertical. The left to right center is fixed.  This part of what you are seeing is normal.

I would advise you take the linkage back off, check that you don't have too many shims between the pivot points or that your mounting block isn't sitting flush on the carbon.  It wouldn't take much to throw it off.

Let us know how it goes!

Thanks for the response!
I pulled the pivot apart and only had 1 washer- so that was ok. The pivot block was flat and tight on the frame too. The only discrepancy I've found is with the link balls. The tail grips have the same PN, but they are a little longer in comparison. Unfortunately my caliper is MIA, so no exact measurement, but it shows side by side. The bottom ball is from the blade grip. Even with longer ones I'd only be .5-1mm lower and still off center. It may be enough to not catch, but I'd like to confirm off center is per design.

I just took a look at mine and it looks just like yours.  I've been flying the snot out of it and the tail on my N7 holds better than any helicopter I've had, so far.  I think it's offset because of the way the lever moves through a horizontal arc, like Chris mentioned.

I got a work around figured out for this. I swapped the pivot balls with the slightly longer tail balls and now it clears the boom clamp.

Thanks for the help!

I'm sorry, I totally missed the part where you mentioned it was touching. Reading comprehension > me. Glad you got it to clear.
