BD 3SX mounting
« on: June 20, 2014, 06:32:45 PM »
I'm getting closer to wrapping up my build and I have a couple of little questions about mounting the BD 3SX on the E5. For anyone flying the E5 with the 3SX:

1. Did you get better results with the thick or the thin mounting tape?

2. Did you mount the unit on the plate above the tail boom clamps?

Thanks!

Thin tape. Just about anything works on a Demon. Yes. Mount on the plate above the boom clamps.
If you have any questions feel free to PM. I use to be a rep for Demon.

I have decided not to put all my eggs in one basket.  I own CGY's, Vbar's, Demons and thanks to Chris a MSH Brain.  That way I can set up any of them when needed. They all fly perfectly well and each has its strengths.
Also now have the Vbar radio and the 14SGH.

How is the vbar control?  I have mostly bars, but I am on the fence about the radio...

It's Different.  Very easy to program and tweak the VBAR while standing at the flight line.  Trying to get used to bank switching versus flight modes.  No real difference other than you don't have throttle curves so to speak with VBAR control.  All throttle settings are straight line.  Unfortunately my first setup was an E7 with Kosmik.  I wanted to stick with the Kosmik gov. In my normal mode I am use to having a zero to low head speed curve.  Can't do that with VBAR control.  At least I cannot find a way.  There are pitch curves available though.
I have been really pleased with the feel of the radio.  Much like the 14SGH.  Gimbals are very smooth.  Really nothing bad to say about the radio thus far.  I just have to change my way of thinking a bit.  I hope to get it set up on My other E7 Running  castle EDGE and use the E-Gov in the VBAR.  After that one of my N7's.  Both of mine are currently running a CGY750.

Cheers

No went back to the 14SGH for Futaba and Demons. Just did not like the weight of the Jeti. Also getting on to work with the CGY is a pain.

Alan, so even though you can use the sb-1 (I think?) With other transmitters, is it a lot more difficult to work on the cgy750 than it would be using a futaba radio?

Oh yeah. Much easier with  futaba radio. The SB-1 will work. It is just a bit more work.

In your opinion, do you like the cgy750 or vbar better? You can pm me if you don't want that public. :)

I like both. On a nitro the CGY is my choice. The Futaba gov works well. I like the way both of them fly.  The most recent CGY firmware is very nice. Tough call. On my electrics I am now using both demons and vbar.  DEMON on the speed and scale. Vbar for 3D.
Both Vbar and the CGY work well.  Really have no preference as far as flight characteristics.
I thought you were going Spartan?

A big part of everything are the reviews I'm seeing for the vbar control.

Always use thin tape with the BD. The thicker tape can cause issues....not saying it will, or has in every case, but it can. And if you eliminate it, then that's one less possible issue to encounter.

I fly the 3X but they're the same minus the CR.

1.
I mount mine as recommended by Danny Melnik, the distributor for BD in NA. I use a double layer of 3M 4011 tape. I've been doing it for a long time now and it gives excellent results.

2.
Yes, I mounted mine on the plate above the tail boom clamps. I've attached a photo (mind the wiring, I'm not happy with it yet and want to tidy it up once I think about it some more).
