OS 105HZ-R running crazy after vacation
« on: July 01, 2014, 12:15:24 PM »
Help, first nitro of any kind and was running great for a month or so, but went off on vacation and missed a couple of weekends flying...  When I got back took it out and started flying with almost the break in settings and after a minute or two it sounded like it was lean like running low on nitro, started shaking like crazy and vbar went haywire rolling hard to right.  Had to fight it to stay level and auto down.  Extreme vibrations in vbar logs, but there was plenty of fuel and no bubbles in the line?  At a loss as to where to start looking...

Check bearings in the motor as well as motor mount bolts. Something has let loose.

Clean your check valve! Even though it is providing pressure it can still gum up... Also clean the Regulator as well. TOTAL Disassembly. If this Motor ran fine when you left and now its acting up when you got back from Vaca. **Sticky Fuel*** is what i call it..      Try that and keep us posted. Also not questioning your skills by any means, be very careful when disassembling the parts. make sure you keep track of all the pieces and orientation. This has skunked several guys. do it over a White Paper Towel or Rag.  Good Luck!

Kevin

Yea, that is kind of what I was worried about.  I did go over all the external fasteners and nothing is loose, couldn't see the main bearings going out in under a month, so was afraid it could be regulator...  I have read of others having issues with it.  I was running CoolPower 20% with an inline filter and one in the filler system also.

Don't swet the regulator regarding fearing its faulty, I think for starters a little TLC cleaning of thos components I mentioned, and you should be good..

Ok, same issue, 30-45 seconds into a flight it starts leaning out...  I changed regulator, check valve, and fuel filter.  I am at a loss.  Anymore suggestions?

Next thing I would check is to make sure the tank is holding pressure.

Yea, change tank and kit clunk to a Lynx MOAS and it ran for 3 minutes normal, then started getting lean.  Still at breakin needle settings...

Is the carb fully seated into the crank case and the carb retaining screw nice a tight?

Needle valves tight?  Check the o-rings around the needle valve. Also make sure the needle valve bodies are tight in the crankcase (and the gasket installed) at the needle valve to crankcase.

Out of curiosity, how does a slipping clutch or one way going out exhibit?  I do not think that is it, because you can hear the motor increase in RPM and it starts to shake...  I normally kill it and auto it down, backplate is very warm at that point - but just looking at everything!

I guess there is a chance the new regulator is gummed up or stuck...

I got tired of having to fiddle about with regulators, check valves etc. Removed on my N7 and N5C about 2 months ago and went to muffler pressure. Since then, I have not looked back, in fact its almost as simple as flying electric now, very reliable and consistent. IMO the crankcase pressure systems are not very robust and just become a PITA from time to time.
