Simple Ohm's Law, as voltage goes up, current goes down.  The more voltage you can get to the servos, the less current they will draw.

The .5V you guys are talking about, pretty much won't affect anything.  I run a separate flight pack for my electronics, and it's around 8.6V fully charged and I run it down to just below 8.0V before I recharge it.  I could go lower, but I always have a second pack ready and just exchange them when needed and put it in line of batteries to be charged.

I don't know if that is necessarily a bad thing.  I had an experienced electrician do some work in my house last week.  He took an interest in my helis.  When he saw that I had 10 AWG wires on my 160A ESC, he said to be careful as those wires are only rated for 15A.  Yes, exactly!

P = V * I

No mystery with these equations.  Assuming resistance stays constant, an increase in voltage also increases current, and vice versa.

Now, if power stays constant, voltage and current are inversely related; as voltage goes up, the current goes down, and vice versa.

It is my understanding that as you increase the BEC output voltage, you also increase the power consumption at which the servos operate.  That may explain why increasing the BEC output voltage may lead to issues.

That's funny I had the same debate over amp draw with my 160. Had a hard time convicting them that the short wire length plays a big factor.

I made a very brief attempt to explain the short wires, actual heat measured during and after flight, and how these are proven setups.  In the end, I humbly thank the electrician for imparting his knowledge, and told him I would reevaluate my wiring.  If you wrestle a pig, you are both going to get dirty, but the pig is going to like it.

A bit late here!

I think the biggest advantage of a HV servo is for the guys who run separate receiver packs. They no longer have to run a BEC also they just plug right in to a 2s lipo and fly. Of course you generally also get a bit more speed, torque, an efficiency with a good HV servo.

I run a Western Robotics BEC wired to the main packs on everything I have, HV servo's or not with great success.
I used to run Castle BEC units but had several fail so i switched.

While you're understanding of the equations is true, I think you need to look at things a little differently.  Your first equation, yes as you increase current, voltage would go up, but how do you increase current, especially in this application?  You are changing voltage, so you need to use a different variation of the formula, or plug in the voltage number you are using, and then solve for I or current.  You will then see, as voltage goes up, your current goes down. 

So as you increase BEC voltage, the current goes down.  You can't change the current, you can only change the voltage, in this setup.  Power consumption can be calculated, but for ease, just assume it stays the same.

      So far with all this information I have got the servos ,CC Bec Pro,and Phoenix Edge HV120.I will be running Futaba HV BLS272SV S-Bus2 servos for Cyclic and MKS HV Brushless HBL980 servo for Tail.  My motor is a Scorpian HKIII-4025-1100KV. I will be using a Silverline VBar for recievor and FBL control.Iam going to run a 6S setup .My question now is what voltage should I set up the Bec at if the 6s battery is going to power up everything on the Heli.

Hi Chris,

Congratulations on getting your E5 and welcome to the Synergy family.  :)

I run my E5 as a 550 class 6S machine and it's awesome! Great fun! I run mine with a scorpion HKIII4025-1100 KV motor and a CC ICE120HV ESC, I also run a Gryphon Quasar HV BEC wired directly into the ESC to power my electronics but I do also run a Scorpion back-up guard for safety and peace of mind. I also use a Optipower Ultra guard on my E7Se which is a smart guard and self activates, self charges and will also able to be put into storage mode if it's not going to be used for a period of time.

With regards to flight battery capacity, I use a mix of Optipower Ultra 4300mah 6S packs and GensAce 4400 6S 60C packs. The GensAce are slightly lighter than the Optipowers but still balances the heli perfectly.

On the machine I run a reserved setup with Futaba BLS451's on the Cyclic and a Futaba BLS251 on the tail.

Awesome heli, I'm sure you will enjoy the build and enjoy the heli even more once you get her flying. Keep us posted on your progress and If you have any questions during your build just give us a shout and we will do our best to answer and help you out.  :)

Ross my E5 has same motor, ESC and beck. I run BK servos and pulsed 5000 packs at the moment, looking to try some 4500 packs ax well. Awesome heli.

I was wondering about your backup systems (Scorpion and Optipower). Interested to see where and how thus kit is mounted and wried on the E5. Would you pits some picks... Maybe a different thread, don't want to hijack this one..

you will not need to worry about a tail servo voltage. If it is not high-voltage, the tail sevo operates at lower voltage then cyclic servos. And you will need step down regulator.

Trying to decided what headspeed to run the E5 at.The helicopter will be running a 6S setup.Igot 6S Gen Ace 4800 Mah 60c battery Packs.
