E5 to an E7SE
« on: August 26, 2014, 04:15:57 PM »
so I have decided that I want to get rid of my current E7's. I just never really felt them right. I am going to swap my fleet to E5's, and N7's. I have 2 E5's now, one is a 550 on 6 cell, and the other a 626 on 12 cell. I am going to keep electronics for one of the E7's, and possibly stretch an E5 to an E7.....

I have a hacker motor (original E7 motor) that will fit in the frames with very little modification. but I doubt the 520 ultimate could be made to fit in the frames at all....so I found this Scorpion motor - http://www.scorpionsystem.com/catalog/motors/hkiii-40/hkiii-4035/HKIII_4035_530/ - that will be easy to fit in the frames. I may try the hacker one, just to see if I even like the way the thing feels (that was my problem with the E7...) since its free, but if I like it, what do you guys think about this motor?

also, I am assuming that it is highly recommended to use the E7SE/N7 head, and not the E5 head right....lol!

I am planning on running thunder power 5000ma packs OR spyder 4400ma packs......

For the E5SS (super stretch baby!) ...

Actually, some guys have fit the 4525-520 Ultimate, but it requires cutting / bending of the frames from what I understand.

I don't know if they swapped the head, but I believe they did swap the main gear. Maybe someone who has done the super stretch can chime in.

ok great!. I see that the frames would have to be highly modified for it to work, but I am sure it could be done. I would love to see some pictures and how guys did it.

the head - the head axle is the same diameter, so the strength is there I am sure, but the size of the blade grips are  my concern. I don't think they would come apart by any means, they have the same bearings and the same head axle, but what I am concerned about is the blade root hitting the grip if I tap a blade on the ground in a bad auto or something.....

good point with the main gear, I honestly didn't even think about that.....yet.....

I actually ran my E5ss in the speed cup at IRCHA this year. I am running a 4530-450kv motor, Kosmik 200, 716 rails and 14s Pulse Ultra 4100mAh packs.  Stock E5 head and 4.5:1 tail ratio with 106 tails.

Turning the head at 2690  :o

The E5 head is plenty strong ;)

Now the E7se head is 10mm wider and certainly beefier.

I personally would NOT recommend cutting the frames to stuff a 45 series motor in it. The mods I made to the frame severely weaken the frames and I promise you a crash will cost a fortune.

The bird is very light, my fully decked out speed machine with 14s packs was only 11.5 pounds(5.22kg) AUW.  Put a 4035-560 in it and a castle 120. You will think you are driving a twin turbine fighter jet ;)

I saw a super stretch with a Scorpion 4035-560 in it, last weekend, and it was definitely impressive. You will need to replace the blade bolt adapters in the E5 head with the M5 version (310-145) to run 700mm blades.

great info guys! I may try it with the hacker that I have on the shelf just to see if I like the way it feels, then upgrade to the scorpion after that if I love it!

My super stretch runs 696 blades and a Scorpion  4225. I did the heat gun popsicle trick. It's spends most its time at 1250 head speed but I also run it on a 10s 4000ma setup @ 1950. It is quite the rocket 🚀 ship and light as can be. I have a touch over 120 flights on it with the stock E5 head/main gear. 2/3 of flights are @1250. I could see upgrading the head if was running a higher head speed but the stock setup works well for me.

I run my Super Stretch with 696 mains with the stock E5 rotor head as well. Running a HKIII 4035-560 on 8s with the stock E5 main gear and a 13T pinion. My max head speed is 1600 or so. I did put the 54T/11T tail gears in it to speed the tail up.

Hey, guys. I actually run a 4035 560 and jive 120 pro in my E5 as 550. I haven't got to use it 100% though because I got some hard vibrations in the tail. But it got some power!
