OK I finished ESC programming with the CC Edge HV 120

Using Governor high mode and a 12T pinion if I want HS above 2200 the software says its has minimal governor overhead.

If I switch to a 14T I can get a HS of 2200 with 50.5% throttle
                                                      2300 with 53.6%
                                                      2400 with 56.7%

I am reading that most people like the HS in the 2300-2400 range.  Do those settings make sense?

What is the pros and cons of using a 12T or 14T?

i would not suggest using a 14t with the castle esc as it has no freewheel circuit and those are some pretty low throttle numbers. it would likely overheat on you. stick with a 12 in my opinion

yes, absolutely too low. i fly my E5 at 2500HS with the 13T pinion. my Castle says it is at 104% at hover. that is still ok. those numbers are only suggestions, not law. for the Castle you need your gov % at 90-95% at hover. any lower and it will generate heat and not perform at its best. i ran my E7 at 86% throttle at hover and it did not perform like i wanted it to. swapped pinions and got it to 95% and it is 100% better.

You can use a YGE ESC that has active freewheeling and run at a lower throttle % though. if thats what you want to do, but i would just suggest running the 12T pinion and ignoring your castle comments. 104% is what i hear is the max that you want to run at hover before you start to see any negative effects.

Sounds reasonable to me.

12T it is.

I will play around with the throttle curve in stunt mode. Probably start with 80% throttle and go from there.

me too. there is a new firmware now. i would like to hear from some of the guys who really know their stuff on how this affected the % needed to run efficiently.

I'm running the latest firmware on the Edge 160 on my E7 and the governor is at 104%.  Seems to run really well.

me too, on my E5 anyway, i am at around 95, and 100% on my E7's, but i dont fly as hard as some to be able to tell the differences.

Maiden.......hover today

In my backyard.

Lifted it up gave it 1 click down elevator and 1 click right aileron (it was a little windy).

Stable and solid. Good start.

Hopefully proper flights later this week.

First impression 'wow this is a bit more serious than my 450'

Are you talking about trim on your transmitter? I've never used Beastx, so forgive me if I'm wrong here, but normally flybarless trim is done in subtrim and software to be handled electronically by the gyro, or by physically adjusting the swash linkages. Tx pot trims should always stay at zero. Congrats on the successful maiden!

All I have proven so far is the controls and basic setup is in the ballpark.

Real flights later this week will be the real test.

even for the wind, you dont use trim on your TX with a FBL unit. trim is read as a control input. you will just have to compensate for it, once you make the adjustment, the FBL should do a pretty decent job of holding the attitude even in the wind though. it really shouldn't drift much in the wind anyway actually.

i go ahead an disable all of my trims, so they are not even active anymore and if they get hit by mistake, its no big deal.

using trim on an FBL unit..even the Beast x is a big no no and it will say that right in the manual.  Set your trims to zero and disable them.  If you NEED to trim, read the beastx manual and it tells you how to do just that.  I THINK it is Parameter menu G but I forget.
