E5 6s vs 12s 550
« on: January 09, 2015, 11:27:03 PM »
Its been a while, but I'm building another Synergy! Going to start off with an E5 due to budget, but up in the air about building it as a 6s 550 or 12s 550. Who has had experience flying this heli with both set ups? Opinions and thoughts please. I've flown it stretched plenty of times and don't want to go that route at the moment. Leaning towards a 6s set up since I want to leave it as a 550.  Look forward to seeing the Synergy crowd at bham  8)

I have only ever flown mine on 12s.  I notice the weight but having flown a gasser i like it.  It handles higher wind better, or atleast i find it does.  I made battery trays out of lexan to make the battery changes easier.  For hs i run 2350 (maybe 2300) and fly for 5 min with a 3.85 to 3.9v per cell left upon landing.

Nothing beats the simplicity of a single pack. 6s all the way

If you already have batteries I'd  build it accordingly. That being saud I've only flown mine as 6s so I could run the same packs as my e7.

Steve, I think you already made a decision, but I prefer it on 6s. 6s at 2500HS this heli flys amazingly. its light even with a 5000ma 6s pack in it. even the spyder packs feel light in this heli.

with that being said, I do not like sharing packs with my 700 though. I know a lot of guys do that, but to me, seems like you age the packs at different rates like that. I prefer to have my 700 packs, and then my 550 packs but that is just me...

I've flown it both ways, still 12s right now. Now matter how you build it, right motor, esc choice and both ways runs great.

I have enjoyed it both as 6s and 12s. I prefer the 6s single packs, plenty of power. 12s to seems to have unlimited power and is a lot of fun that way too. I run most everything on 7s anymore which allows me to run a 12 tooth on my 4025 1100kv and run 2550 head speed, you can feel the weight of the 7s 5000ma 45c packs but it has so much power it feels good.

Thanks for all of the support and input guys. I was really leaning towards a 6s set up, but was curious to see if a majority of you really preferred it in a 12s set up as I already have a motor and batteries in my 570 I could of possibly used, but I believe I am going to sell those with the heli and run this on a 6s set up... more flights, more simple.  ;D

Glad to be back on the forum Kevin, and Rick! See you all at an event soon!
