N7 blades
« on: December 04, 2015, 04:46:55 AM »
Hi guys,

I just bought a Synergy N7 with a set of the 716 main blades. The guy in the hobby shop said to get 116 tail blades as it locks the tail in a lot better.

What's the recommended combo? 696/106 or 716/116?

I'm a big air / sports flier.

Thanks

I think the majority of folks run 696/106. I do and thats what I was told.

116 tails can touch 716s in flight and is not recommended. 716s are pretty heavy blades for a nitro, I think you would have more fun with the 696 106 combo honestly. It's a light helicopter, 696s provide plenty of thrust and the tail holds very well with 106 tail blades. I know with the E7SE if you want to run 116mm tails with 696 blades it is recommended that you pull the tail box back 4mm from the fully seated position. The N7 has a little more room between the head and boom so this MAY not be required. Best to measure and make sure.

The N7 has the E7se faster, 4.9:1 tail ratio.  106 tails are plenty, even with 716.  I agree that the 696 are enough though. I know a couple people, one of which is on the team, that run 716s with OS105s.  It can handle it, but I personally don't feel it is needed.

I even went down to try Spin matte black 685's as I could not get any other blades quickly at the time. I was warned that these blades would be very aggressive and not good in autorotation. But I found them just fine, not too aggressive and I do not autorotate much apart from landing and that works just fine. And I use 105mm tailblades. Tried 116, but the tail didn't like it.

I personally fly 696/116 on mine. I do pull my tail box back a few mm as suggested, and never had a problem. my reason for flying the 116 are the tail holds stronger if fast fast funnels, and I don't have to keep stock of 3 different tail blade sizes :)

As I had to buy Spin Matte Black 685 blades for my N7 because that was the only blades I could get quckly enough, I feel these are just fine for my moderate flying which is sport and some mild 3D with tic-tocks, I am wondering if I should stick with these, or get 700 blades next time?

For myself I run 696's with 106 tails, with both OS105 and OS 91, perfect combination.. Matt😎 flies 696's with 106's on his N7 also.

I've put the N7 through some pretty hard piro reversals using 696/106 on the 4.9:1 tail ratio. I've never had it blow out provided the engine has kept up. This included a tail down full collective "death test" funnel.

Are those Spin 685s actually shorter? Or are they just measuring the length differently? If you're just  putting around they'll be fine. You will have heavier disc loading, so the aircraft will act as if it has less pitch. You could notice this on the ends of tic tocks, stops not being as hard, etc.

Otherwise, the 700 series rails work rather well on a nitro. Engine loading isn't bad, cyclic is very quick, collective is solid, and high speed tracking is very good (no surprise, Matt likes big air :P)

Actually the Spin Matte Black 685 I had to buy is 670mm long. I was warned that these blades would be too aggressive and provide poor autorotating. Well, I am not a hardcore 3D flyer so long, but I try to learn. I do tic-tocks and some inverted manouvers. And I now always land in autorotation. No problems with the Spin Matte Black 685, and they are not too aggressive in any way. Actually, my E5 is much more agile in sideways flips, now running Zeal 570 blades, but where about the same with Rail 556's. Do you think my N7 would be more agile with Rail 696's?
