E5 gear ratios
« on: February 20, 2016, 09:21:16 PM »
I have an E5 running 6s , stock blades(556's) vertigo 550 motor (1175kv)12t pinion cc 120hv , cgy750  and headspeed of 2250.
i'm trying to figure out what tail ratio to use , at the moment I have the 52t tail drive gear and i'm not 100% sure which spur gear it is , what I would like to know is what gear should I be running for this setup , and also what is the recommended headspeed for a 6s setup , I have a 13t pinion I could use if I need a higher headspeed . the reason I ask is because I have a wobble when I jab the elevator and again i'm not sure if its to do with running the wrong headspeed
thank you

With that headspeed you are good with the 52T and 13T spur gears (stock setup). The suggested tail speed is between 8,000 - 10,000 RPM.  The 52T and 13T gives you a ratio of 4:1 and a tail speed of 9,000 with your headspeed.

I see what you did there , gear divided by spur = ratio , thank you for the confirmation, I have another question . Is 2250 a good headspeed for a 6s setup or should I be higher or lower

That will depend on your flying style. 2250 will work with the 556 mains. You may want to bump it up if your doing hardcore 3D.

not hard core 3d , more smooth 3d with some bad collective management thrown in for good measure

quick theoretical question. my stock e5 has a cc 120 edge hv and a vertigo 1175 kv motor 6s power source , i'm running 2250 with the 12 t pinion , if I wanted to run 2500 headspeed .1. what pinion should I go for ?.2 will the edge 120 cope with 2500 on 6s? I only ask because the cc 130 lv I had on it in the beginning burnt up when I tried to run 2250 with the 13t pinion.

14t pinion

And yes the 120 will do great!
