E5 Tail Bevel Gear

Hey guys:
      Had a little mishap with the E5 involving the dog, and a neighbor walking their kids around. No one hurt, but some damage to the heli unfortunately. I hand full of parts needed to do the repairs. Ran into a problem though, ordered most of the parts from Amain hobbies, and a few parts from Matt's store. One of the things that I ordered from Matt was the rear tail bevel gear. Part # 305-518. Parts arrived but this part was packaged wrong. Instead of the rear bevel gear, what was inside the packaging was the front trans bevel gear, part # 320-118. So I'm hung up not having that part. I contacted the store address explaining the problem, but haven't received any response yet. I tried to send Matt an email directly at what I remember being his email address but haven't received a response either. Maybe I have his email address wrong. Is there a event taking place that Synergy is at? I really wanted to be able to fly this weekend, but it's not looking good at this point. If anyone can verify Matt's email address for me, or let me know why I have not had a response to my emails, or if anyone has a spare tail bevel gear handy they can sell me, let me know. Thanks to all hope everyone is doing well and has a good upcoming Memorial Day Weekend. I personally have to work!

  Ok so Matt sent me the correct rear bevel gear. But now I have another issue with the tail box. Went to put it all together and I have no clearance between the tail bevel gear and the tail mushroom gear that's in the housing. That gear is pressed all the way into the housing, it wont go any farther in that I can see, and when assembling the side cases there is just no clearance between the gears, its notchy and tight. Looking at the alignment of the gears is seems like the tail mushroom gear in the tail box housing should be farther in, but its as far as it can go. I am not sure what I am missing. I'm going to look in the trash for the old gear and compare, but it sure looks the same. If anyone has some idea what I might be missing please let me know asap. Really miss flying my E5

  I wonder if the rear tail mushroom gear the I received is really the front trans mushroom gear, they look almost identical too. That's the only thing that makes any sense to me. If that is the case, boy am I unlucky! That would be 2 incorrectly bagged parts that I received.

It's common with new gears to need to move the shim on the tail shaft to the other side of the gear opening up the mesh a bit. That shim is the mesh adjustment. Be sure the mushroom gear is seated, freezing the gear can help as the delrin will compress more than the aluminum but adjusting the mesh isn't uncommon.

No dice, even without the shim there is no way. I looked in the trash can for the old broken tail mushroom gear but can not find it to do a comparison. What's the difference between the front trans mushroom gear and the rear tail mushroom gear? Look identical in the manual, but have different part numbers.

99.5% sure it the front trans mushroom gear and not the rear tail mushroom gear. There is a small 2mm approx. boss just underneath the gear itself that prevents it from being installed to far inward.

The front mushroom gear isn't as long and wouldn't reach all the way through the tail case.

Is there any chance the bearing slipped forward while changing the gears?

Can you get a good picture of the boss touching the bearing?

i think your right. sounds like your trying to install the front trans mushroom gear in the tail box. one of them has a shoulder, but I cannot for the life of me remember which one.

Yep, I contacted Matt, and he's sending another tail mushroom gear. The front trans mushroom gear has the shoulder 99.5 % sure. I don't want to pull the trans out of the heli to verify, but when the other tail mushroom gear arrives and fits like it designed to, I will know for 100%.
