Part 320-406 has come out causing my last two crashes
« on: February 25, 2018, 10:40:45 PM »
I have the E5 that has no set screw to hold the 320-406 pin into place. The first time it came out, caused me to locktite it in place, but it too came out. Are there other pilots seeing this issue, what are you doing to fix it. My next attempt is red or green locktite. BTW, whats the deal with all the verification? Is there a lot of false posts created by bots on heli sites going on?

Why do you not have a set screw to hold it in place? It needs a set screw as shown In the manual. You also need to run the set screw into the threads without the pin installed. This will clear out any shavings in the threads. The pin absolutely will not stay in place without the set screw properly installed.

Wow do I feel like an idiot. It had been a while since I built it up and had to replace that pin, I did not see the set screw from the top going down into the shaft...... I am lashing myself 30X. When I read about the set screw in forums, I saw it for E7 or the like I did not reconsult the manual only to get the part#. I was look in the wrong spot for the set screw. Jon, thanks for politely pointing me in the right direction.

The verification keeps the bots at bay. It ends once you make a few more posts.

Sounds like you sorted the set screw issue. Don't flog yourself too bad. I've missed that one myself.

CG, you are very welcome. I’m sorry to hear about your two crashes but at least you have it figured out now. I lost a pin on a used airframe I picked up. The builder didn’t run the set screw through the threads without the pin. I should have torn it down and done it myself. That is a very important step that’s easy to miss.  You will most likely clear a couple shavings out on a new shaft.

Like Chris said, don't feel too bad, that one has caught a lot of people out.  I used to always forget about it when I was trying to take the pin out and I would be going crazy trying to figure out why I couldn't press the damn thing out.
