The easiest way is to put it in the freezer for about 15 minutes and then remove it. It will usually come right out that way. It's the mushroom bevel gear you're talking about, not the tail bevel gear, yes? The bevel gear is the one with the pin through it. If that's the one you're talking about, you have to remove the set screw from the end of the tail output shaft before the pin will come out. It is shown on page 39 of the manual.
