E7 TT Conversion - Update
« on: January 16, 2012, 12:13:36 AM »
I've received a ton of questions about the TT Conversion for the E7 lately (rightfully so because Christmas came and went with no TT under the tree) so I've decided to post the details here.

In mid December, I had to make a tough decision regarding the original shaft driven tail box. I could either release the original design at Christmas as I promised or ......... take a bit longer and release something I felt was much better than my first design. Since you only get one chance to make a first impression and since many Synergy customers have three feet of snow at the flying field, I decided to go ahead and take the extra time to make what I think you guys will really enjoy. Synergy has always been known for its top quality products and I feel now is the time to take it to the next level of quality. The new tail box is completely different and will provide a solid rear transmission for the E7.

A few details -
1. All Aluminum Tail Box which is the same exact weight as the original carbon design.
2. Four point bearing plate mount system to ensure proper bearing alignment and rigidity.
3. 20 tooth Mod 1.25 bevel gears which are larger in diameter that 24T Mod 1 Trex 700 bevel gears. These gears will withstand some serious abuse from pro pilots and ham handed novices! :)
4. Longer carbon tail fin to allow for longer tail blades

Check out the pictures below.

I have quite a few flights on the new tail box and even though the performance is the same as the last tail box, I feel better about the whole package.

Thanks for being patient, I hope you understand I only want to bring the highest quality products to your hands.

Sincerely,

Matt Botos

Thanks for the update and I totally support the change in plans. I really like the new tailbox and am glad you've gone this direction.   Longer fin is bonus for the guys like myself that want a little lower headspeed and longer tail blades.  I won't spoil the mood an ask when it will be available.  ;)  Keep up the great work.

PS: The forcast is for snow this week in Seattle, first of the season.

Great Job Matt!!

Thanks for the information Matt, I completely understand and am thankful for your decision to make sure it is bullet proof prior to release.

One question, why the need for longer tail blades? Does the TT change the tail drive ratio that much?

I guess my real question is, if I am running an e7 with 106 Rail tails at 2200rpm head speed, will my tail not hold as well as it does with the belt?

Good info in the tips and tricks section.

http://synergyrchelicopters.com/forum/index.php?topic=265.0

Quote
1. Tail rotor performance is relative to your head speed.
2. When running slower head speeds 1900 - 2000 you should increase your tail blade size.
3. When running higher head speeds 2200-2250 you can easily run 106mm blades without issue
4. Heavy cyclic and pitch at the same time (ham hands) will blow out any tail. Adjust your cyclic and collective to meet your collective management skill level.
5. The heavier your helicopter, the higher the disk loading. The higher your disk loading is the harder your tail must work to counter act torque. Run appropriate size tail blades if you are running heavier batteries.

Here are my recommendations based on head speed.

Head Speed------Tail Blade Size
1900-2000        110-115mm
2150                 110mm
2250                 Rail 106mm (they have 30mm cord for nearly the entire length)

No need for longer tail blades. I am running 106mm blades and it works perfectly.
My head speed range is 2000 - 2200

If someone were to run 1600 - 1700 then maybe they would want to run longer tails blades.

Gregor posted a good reference to this.

Thanks!

Matt

Thanks for the explanation.  I am looking forward to this not because my bird isn't great now, I just have no confidence in my ability to adjust belt tension ;)

What's the new ETA? Will it be available before March? I've had all the electronics for almost 2 months now looking for a TT E7 to install it in. I hate to be the guy to ask but I've been checking daily, looking for the release date since November. I was hoping there would be a new release time frame but as of yet, have seen nothing.

Someone said march to me today funnily enough but a more official answer even if it is an unsure it would be welcomed :)

Factory is running production batch right now. I'm hoping to have some available by the end of February. I can't promise anything but I am confident you will be happy with the end product.

Thanks,

Matt
