E7 build questions
« on: March 18, 2012, 11:30:49 AM »
Hey guys,

I am just building my E7! I had just a few questions. I am going to be running the Hacker 470kv motor, which pinion should i use? also, I am going to be using futaba cyclic servos eventually but i have some 8717s laying on the shelf and i figured i would use them. do i need spacers behind the servos to get the geometry correct? also, will i be able to use the carbon fiber horns Matt has provided in the kit with these servos? I must say i am very happy with this build. the airframe goes together in no time! just need to install the tail section, and put in the servos and do programming. still a good 2 to 3 hours left on the build. but i am stuck on what i need to do for servo geometry/spacing....

Thanks for your help in advance!

I am running the 14t pinion on mine with the hacker 470kv. My target head speed is 2200 rpm.

I'm also running the 14t pinion. Mostly 2050 and 2150 rpm. The servo horns are designed for Futaba servos so you might have to drill your wheels.

The pinion you will need to use is also affected by the ESC you want to use.

Jeff,

No need to add spacers for JR servo's they fit with no modifications. in regards to the servo horns, I did use futaba small wheels on the Jr servo's with no issues. However the small jr "WHITE" servo wheels. the holes will line up. also the center to servo ball spacing is around 10-10.5 mm.  Depending on the FBL system you are running will determine where the Ball is put for the Tail Servo horn, also which tail servo you are planning to use will dictate which Horn to use. Pay close attn to the Tips and Tricks section in the Forum and Congrats on the Purchase and Build!

Rock N Roll Big. Set the Ball on the tail servo farthest out using the 4 star futaba servo horn, Good luck. Let us know if you get in a bind. ;)

Just a thought.
My BEC is mounted on the back side (under) the ESC mounting plate. Because of this March heat wave we are having in the South, I'm finding my BEC temps at times are in the upper 90's after a flight.
I'm going to relocate the BEC to outside the frames to see if it will run cooler.

At this time I'm finding the 14t pinion and Hacker 470 are not working out for my target max head speed of 2200 in the E7. I gear for 4.00 min flight times, anything more is a plus. Max motor temps have been 167.
