Is necessary contact pinion with counterbearing?

I need give pinion higher in motor shaft, because pinion sometimes go in contact with maingear.
I cant get some good answer for this question. I asked some friends, and I got diferent advice.

The pinion does need to rest on the bearing block below it. This helps with the mesh as well as helps hold the bearing in the bearing block.

I solve it, that i used 6x12x 1mm shim and all is ok. Pinion touch bearing block and now its enough high for right work.

Yes, the pinion does need to contact the bearing. This prevents motor bearings from being destroyed due to helical forces.

I missed that. Moved the pinion down. Solved my motor overheating issue.
