N5c Build!
« on: September 23, 2012, 11:31:20 PM »
What up guys!

Build thread! I know, they're done to death, but you can't keep a good build thread down!

So here's what I've got:

N5c
NovaRossi .57
CGY750
O.S. Powerboost II
BLS253/BLS251
Life 2100mah 10C

Why am I using this equipment? Because I already have it  ;) I've read through the tips and tricks, and will be starting as soon I've recovered from the Heli Extravaganza (awesome event!).

Photos will ensue!

I know! It's amazing how time just whizzes by when you're catching up!

I am sorting out some bearings for the tail belt "mod" to raise the belt slightly in the boom. Should have them shortly. Soon as I get underway I will get some pics up!

Great. Maidened mine today. Got 4 flights on it. Starting leaning the OS out on the second flight. Running good but I will need to lean out the top a bit more.
Really liking the N5C. GY701 Gov working well.  Hc3-extreme was flawless. Had to turn down the agility on both the tail and cyclic.
Keep us posted on your progress.

Cheers
Alan

Here we are at the end of day one. Everything went together so quickly that I forgot to take photos along the way  ;D

Things I like:
- Sensor magnets in the clutch bell with the sensor mount on the side frame. I cannot rave about this enough, I love this layout!
- Quality: All of the aluminum parts are beautifully machined, and I haven't had a single bad part yet.

Things me likey not so much:
- The rubber strips that the fuel tank mounts into. No matter what I do, I just can't get it to sit right without the edges flaring out.
- Skid pipe ends, I can't seem to get them in there without a hammer - I'll just leave them off.

I'll get more done tomorrow and post up some more pics!

Very nice, thanks for sharing! When I was putting the strips on for the fuel tank first I warmed up the rubber to make it a little more mailable. Then I took a small dot of CA at each corner to hold it in place. I let it set up in place for a couple hours before I slid the fuel tank in and now it sits in there evenly without flare.

Another option is to hold it in place with some of those squeezable binder clips for a couple hours and then remove them and slide the tank in.  I think the biggest thing is just getting the rubber to conform to the frames at first.

+1 to what Brandon Suggested.  I used my trusty monokote heat gun to warm the rubber seal.
Coming along nicely Chris.  You'll have it done by the weekend for sure!

Cheers

Hi guys,

Just got registered, thanks Chris for the link. I purchased my N5c kit a week after IRCHA and have been surprised at my financial creativity toward obtaining the necessary components to complete it. Just ordered my Outrage BL9180 cyclic servos yesterday and now the only major component I need is a gyro, which I was all settled on the Futaba 750 until seeing the HeliCommand in action at Triple Tree! Dang, that might slow my maiden by a few weeks but that rescue feature of the SX is awesome and just what I need!

On the fuel tank trim, I was able to roll the excess rubber to the inside of the sideframes so it is just not visible, we'll see if it stays in place after a few flights.

I will post some pics of my progress soon. :)

I like these suggestions, I'll pop the tank back out and use a heat gun to get it to conform better. Thanks!
