Leaky Fuel Grommet

My fuel tank has sprung a leak. I haven't flown the heli for a couple of months. I went out a couple of weeks ago to fly. While I was filling the tank, I noticed fuel dripping.  It's coming out of the tank around the fuel grommet. Although this just started, the grommet feels loose on the tank. I pulled the grommet and took some measurements. Sure enough the grommet is a bit smaller than the opening, by about .5mm or less?(can't say that I have the best tools)

What gets me is that this just started, two months prior and all was well.

What the heck?

Is anyone else experiencing this?

Haven't ever seen that with a Synergy. Now tell me this, Are you measuring the OD of the Grommet with the Nipple through it? (It will obviously expand when nipple is through it.) Then compare measurement. Keep in mind, I'm not doubting your Skills/intellect , Just have to ask  ;).

I agree I have with Kevin haven't ever seen that with a Synergy but, even the best grommets will lose their elasticity eventually and appear to shrink.  It was also a little warmer a few months ago which may explain why you are seeing it now.

I understand that the grommet will expand with the nipple through it.  I measured it without the nipple through it. But even with the nipple in, it is not a tight fit. It's loose? And thats not right.

I used some yellow gas tape (the stuff used for natural gas pipe fittings). I rapped it around the nipple a few or more times, then put the whole thing together. It is now snug. I filled it up and let it pressurize. It held with no leaks.  so we will see what happens when I go to the field.

I have to say, I have never seen this before either, make that ever.

I've never had my N5c leak however on my old TRex I did until I dunked it into a fuel jug for a couple of hours. It seemed to put some moisture back into it and worked fine after that.

I have been having the same problem, mine was ok when I was running the os 55 hz but when I changed to the hzr my tank grommet started leaking with the pressure. I replaced the grommet as it was over a year old, but still the same  :( I think I now have a solution to it but I am sure to get hate mail over this  ;D I tried the grommet from my trex 700n and it is such a good fit, I have it pressurised just now and will hopefully get it fired up in the next few days, weather dependent. I will update my findings  :)

Please measure the diameter of the grommet in question. (measure the portion that contacts the hole of the fuel tank) Try not to squash the grommet as you are taking the measurement.

Well it works  :)  got three flights on it today with no leaks.

I will try and get a measurement tomorrow, I need to get calipers to measure it.

Sorry for the delay, here are the measurements for both of the grommets.

Grommet A 13.84mm

Grommet S 12.82mm

Do I get a set of rail blades and limited edition canopy for my r and d?  ;D
