Mounting magnets for the gov?
« on: June 24, 2013, 09:41:22 AM »
Sorry ya'll I hate to keep asking questions but....should the governor sensor read both magnets or should the magnets be mounted so that only one is read?

I mounted the magnet so that one is read.  The second magnet is placed upside down so that it does not activate the sensor. That is  what I have done with the CGY750 and a Multigov. I cannot speak for VBAR or another unit. On nitro I haven't used anything but a CGY750 or a multigov..  On electrics I rely on the ESC GOV.

Well crap no wonder the gov won't run right. Gotta pull a magnet and flip it over. Thanks again Alan.

Works the same on Vbar. Each magnet needs to be a different polarity so only one is picked up from the sensor.

Mark

With VBAR you can get around this by changing the Senor number to 2. That way it knows to count 2 signals from the RPM sensor as 1 revolution.  But changing one of the magnets is better if you can get it out.

Are you talking about the two main gear stages option?

In the gov menu for the cgy 750 it show an option for 2 poles would this mean I don't have to remount the magnet?

Yes set the 750 to 2 and you should be good.

Yes that should work.  I always set up the magnets as previously described but that would be much easier at this point.

No on the Nitro Gov Setup 2 page, it asks for Main Gear ratio, Sensor, and max RPM.  Sensor is the number of signals from the RPM sensor to count as one 1 revolution of the motor. If you put both magnets in so that the magnet light on the setup page lights green when both magnets pass over the sensor, then you need to set sensor to 2. If both magnets are upside down and NEITHER magnet lights the magnet light, then you need to flip one of them over because now it isn't seeing ANY rpm reading.

It's important to note that you might need to leave the magnet under the sensor with the system powered up for more than a second to get the magnet light to come on during setup.  If you still get no magnet light after swapping one of the magnets, then you need to adjust the position of the sensor,it might be too far away. Just make sure you check both magnets before you try and fly and make sure you have the right sensor value or the VBAR won't be able to hold head speed.

Thanks Chris.
I really don't need this option, rather just interested as I have not seen this before.

Look at the screenshot, I don't see this option. What am I missing?

Thanks,
Mark

Okay... I see what you talking about now. It seems it is only available for governor on electric.
That option is not available for nitro governor.

Mark

you know what, I apologize. You are right. ON VBar you must have one magnet up and one down, it's iKon that lets you override the sensor value, and on the electric VBar it is looking for the number of poles divided by two.

Sorry about that.  Been working with too many systems of late I guess.

No problem Chris... I was more just interested to see if I missed it somewhere.  :)

How are you finding the Ikon by the way? I have a friend that had some issues with Ikon in the past and changed systems (Can't remember the specific issues off hand).
I think these might have been corrected with a software update that was released a little while ago.

Cheers,
Mark

Well not to steal the thread, but the iKons have come along way.  I have only recently put one on my N5c and only really just getting the gov tuned.  I hope to get out again this week and put a few more flights on it.

Now on my E5s, with the EDGE 120HV, LOVE IT! Gov holds great, flies very predictable and stable. There is a current issue with .23 firmware randomly pushing the tail dynamic setting to max on setup, but simply put it back to where you like it and it will stay there.  The .24 firmware which is in beta right now addresses it.

There are a couple other minor improvements to the GOV in .24 I am eager to see the public get. But I don't know when that will happen.
