Are you planning on using a BEC or an RX pack?

At first I thought my problems were due to the V-Bar, but they were not.

To make a long story short, Castle Creations claimed to me verbally over the phone that RJX servos are defective in that they "will not work properly with any switching BEC."  Now I have not tried them with another BEC as I do not have one, but I can tell you that it seems the Castle BEC Pro does not put out enough voltage fast enough to reliably power up my RJX servos on the first try.  Therefore, I have to unplug and replug.  Of course as many are aware, resistance is a function of temperature, so on very cold days, I get snappy service on the first plug.  Needless to say, the RX pack which provides near instantaneous potential difference works fine every time.

I can't get RJX to write me back, but if I had it to do over again, I would I would not use a Castle BEC Pro and RJX servos.  I would also do some research and find out which BEC the RJX servos are proven to function with.  Aside from this annoyance, I have 43 flights on my RJX servos and they work great once you get them initialized.

Who is to blaim?  Castle or RJX?  I have no clue, but I would want to know about the possibility of an issue if I were you, hence my post.

I can only go on my experience with a CC BEC pro and it was less than stellar.

I currently have a Gryphon quasar on my E5. If I end up with some spare time, maybe I'll throw the RJX servos I bought for my N7 on my E5 and see if I see the same issue.

I am in the process of an E5 stretch build with RJX servos and a Jeti ESC/BEC. Which is a 10a. Also with VBar.

Will report the results.

For those who are curious, here is an email I received back from Castle Creations today:

I spoke to engineering and I also talked to many other pilots in the industry... The RJX servos exhibit the same issue with several other Switching BECs... Our lead engineer also said he has not looked at the RJX servos but he suspects they do not like the ramp up of the switching BECs.

I recommend contacting RJX to see if they have encountered this problem and see if they have any suggestions. Thanks for your email.

I emailed RJX again after receiving this, so we will see.

I also emailed Western Robotics to see if they could recommend to me one of their BECs for use with my RJX servos.

I'll keep ya'll posted.

Makes sense to a degree. I have no problems using the Jeti which is a switching BEC.

Yes, I found it of interest that over the phone I was told that these servos were not compatible with any switching BEC, but I got a modified version of that statement in the email I received today.

I may go to one of their BEC's, and if I do, I'll let ya'll know which one and the outcome, but I want to give RJX at least a week or so to respond first.  Also I've been thinking of using my RJX servos on a Nitro and getting some new ones for the E5.

we have checked and found out this is due the BEC from Castle Creation.
It does not delivery enought current at startup.So the servo will not inicializing correctly.
Its a switching BEC....

I have used RJX servos with Western Robotics Super Hercules, Scott Grey Reactor X2, Scott Grey Reactor HVX, Castle BEC Pro V2 and V3, and Gryphon Quasar models.  Ever single one did the same thing.  About 1 time in 5, maybe 1 time in 10 at least one servo would fail to initialize. Not always the same servo.  Simple power cycle and away you go. Once fully initialized their power draw is actually on par with the BLS futabas. Not as good but very close. Just something in the power ramp up on the RJX. I assume the new full size BK servos will have this issue too as they are OEM RJX per Bert himself.

I love the RJX servos. They are fast, strong and center extremely well. I took off a set of Savox Sb2271/SB2272 HV servos from my speed machine as Matt thought maybe the centering on the Savox was why my speed machine porpoised so badly despite adjustment in the FBL unit. Instantly I was able to lower my I gains and still track straight on speed runs.

I love my Futaba BLS255/256 on my E7se, but if I hadn't gotten a really good deal on them new, I would have put RJX on that bird too.

I have a set of RJX Cyclics and Tail sitting here waiting for my N7.  That's how much I like these servos.

ON the nitros I have just resigned myself to checking servos and power cycling when needed. It's easy with the Off switch the Scott Grey Reactor series offers.

On the Electrics I run straight 2s Lipos on the 2 birds with RJX servos. Never a single power issue.

My point is, don't blame Castle, their switching BEC isn't much different than anyone else's.

Thanks Chris.  IMHO, FWIW, a set of servos marketed for a helicopter should function with a BEC.  One should not be required to run an RX pack or plug, unplug, and replug, and if that is the case, this should be annotated on the servo's specs.

Well, after Chris' post, I'm not going to bother installing mine on my E5 with the Gryphon Quasar.  At least I was already planning on going straight 2S lipo on my N7, so I shouldn't have any issue there.
