Futaba here, all the way.  Just got my 14SG and can't wait to get it programmed and my E7SE in the air, with some telemetry!   8)

Futaba 14SG. Smooth, plenty of features, easy in the hands.

14SGH.. My second favorite radio..   ;D
Had one before the Jeti.  Nicely done.  Felt great. Has telemetry. Nice gimbals.

I was Diehard JR and switched to Futaba Mid 2013. For me it was the best move I ever made... Just getting use to the Set-up aspect.

I have a Spektrum DX8 because when I got into Helicopters I did a thread on HF asking which radio to get.  I've never had problems with my radio driving my Synergy into the ground- I have 133 flights on it now and God knows how many flights on all my other crappier helis.  I prefer the DX8 to other systems because I like to just have the satellites- the S-Bus stuff seems to be in flagrant violation of the KISS principle to me.  That's just my two cents- maybe it is the bees knees, but I don't like what I view to be unnecessary redundancy.  I was wanting a JR radio for the better gimbals until I found out they aren't doing the DSMX sats anymore.

I have not had any major issues with my Spektrum radios.  However, they are the only brand of radios I have used.  I have never held in my hands a Futaba or a Jeti radio.  I often read on the forums how folks switch from Spektrum to Futaba, and never look back.  I can't remember a single post of anyone claiming to have switched from Futaba to Spektrum and liking it better.  I read how Jeti is even better still.

However, it is unclear to me what makes Futaba better.  I read that the gimbals are better, but I don't know what that means.  I read that the programing is superior, but in what way.

Maybe some of you seasoned Futaba owners can list a few features that can persuade Spektrum owners to make the switch.  I would like to hear more about the Jeti also.

I am pretty much in the same boat as you curmudgeon.  I would consider a radio which has better gimbals, then again, I am hesitant to double my wiring requirement when my DX8 gimbals are slicker than deer guts on a door knob already.

With an Sbus receiver there is only one wire running from the receiver to the flybarless controller. The gimbals on my futaba have a smoother more fluid motion to them than my DX8 and I also feel they are more accurate.

I would sell my DX8 in a heartbeat if I could use my futaba for all the bind and fly helis I have.

8FG before that 14MZ.
I guy at my field has a new Jeti. They look pretty good. I wonder if they have SBUS?

As far as reasons for Futaba? It is what I have used for years. I like the SBUS with the CGY750.

The jeti uses ppm which is a one line output like sbus. Unfortunately the receivers don't talk to sbus though. Futaba keeps tight control over that. You can use the jeti with a cgy750 but it requires the sbe-1 adapter.
I like the jeti a lot. Solid radio and very nice telemetry options.

The Jeti has accelerometers, hall effect sensors on the sticks, an impressive telemetry setup, machined from solid aluminum blank, and you can even record your girlfriends (or anybodies) voice to set for the alarm.  This means you can tilt the radio one way and it will automatically give a voice read out of set conditions.  Also there is not an internal drag on the sticks, the hall effect senses stick position via a non contact magnet whereas the potentiometers used on almost all other radios contacts each axis.

I plan on upgrading to a Jeti system someday when I no longer like the 8FGS. But for me the Futaba system is working flawless.

Here are some likes I have for the Futaba T8FGS over the Spectrum Dx6i I had. Obliviously this is not an apple to apple comparison like T8 to Dx8 would be. I wanted a radio that could be used far down the road and the 14 channels was a huge selling point. I like the Ipod like sensor the T8FGS uses for menu navigation. I love the fact that even with a critically low battery I have never ever lost signal or had a brown out.  I like the sbus one wire hookup.  I like being able to adjust the stick tension and length.  I like the layout of the switches and the ability to assign each switch within the menu. I like the fact that I have put this radio through a variety of harsh conditions, got it wet, dropped it, pulled off my desk while hooked up to the simulator, dropped a damaged flight battery on it, it has turned over the timer (99:99hrs) at least 4 times, and the only way to tell it isn't brand new is one broken 3position switch. I also dig that one receiver is all you need, and the receivers are as bulletproof as the radio, I used the receiver that came with the Tx until I bought the two Synergy birds I have.  The receiver included with it had been crashed at least 10 times, I broke the case in two 4 times in which I glued it back together, the antennas had been bent 180 degrees, glued to the frame, and melted,  and honestly I would still trust it to fly any bird I have still.

The one thing I don't appreciate has been mentioned previously and that is it doesn't work with the BNF models like the 130X. Oh and the battery (1800mah NiMh) did not give the duration (2-4hrs) I wanted or the discharge curve, it is possible to use a 2s lipo (I am using a 2500mah good for 6hrs at 7.4v and above), but doing so will void the warranty and can be dangerous (the wall charger is not for lipo and will start a fire if used). In which case I would not reccomend anybody use any battery other than the one that came with it.
