Radio equipment??
« on: January 03, 2014, 03:36:09 PM »
Just wonder what brands and models you Synergy folks use for radio gear.
I'm using Hitec gear, Aurora 9... love the ease of programming, the touch screen and the telemetry.
But can not take full advantage of FBL systems as with sBus or Spektrum sats.
So I have been considering changing, thus the question.
Also I invite you to comment on pros and cons of various systems based on your experience.

I've been flying the same DX7 since 2007.  Spektrum works well for me. :)

Radio.  Currently using the DX18 exclusively.  I previously used the DX6i and DX8 with success, and also tried the DX9 also with success.  I kept the DX18 and sold the rest.  These are my favorite features of the DX18:

1) Dual diversity antenna configuration
2) No antennas to fold/unfold (or break)
3) 4 Flight modes besides Throttle Cut and Throttle Hold
4) Comes stock with LiPo battery
5) Auto shutoff charging feature
6) Timer that can be configured to automatically only count down when the motor is actually spinning.
7) Flight modes can be renamed.  I use the VBar governor, so I renamed the Flight Modes to the set RPM's.

Receivers.  I use 2 DSMX sats with VBar's.

I had a DX8. After watching it slap my helicopters into the ground several times, I decided to make a change. I have a Futaba 14SG now and really like it a lot. It feels much better in my hands, most of the programming is a lot more flexible, and the gimbals feel more precise.

Started with a DX6i, then a DX8 and finally settled on the JR 11x.  I love the programming and ease of use, the gimbals also feel great.  I wish I would have waited 2 months though for the DMSS stuff, the gimbals on the 14 are so smooth!!!

Wow lots of Spektrum guys here.

Well this is the first Futaba guy to chime in I guess. Using the 14SG and I do use the telemetry feature for both my electrics (E5, E6 and E7) and now also on my N7. I love the way this radio feels in my hands.

Sure are a lot of Spektrum guys...
Funny thing is I thought there were more Futaba guys using these helis, probably thought this because Matt flies Futaba.

I would of made this a poll but I did not want just the brand names, also very interested in the model numbers.

Thanks guys   and please keep it coming, lots of food for thought.

Plenty of futaba guys for sure. Just not posting. Look around at events. I would say Futaba is dominant.  Of course I love my jeti :-)

I'm using the DX8 and it seem fine for me. I'm sure the more you spend the better it feels and the more things it can do.  I've had no problems and it has nice features for the money but something new is always just around the corner.

I have a Futaba 14SG and I love it. I will never go back to my DX8 unless its for the bind and fly toys. I fell the Futaba is much more precise and locked in. Not to mention the shape fits my hands much better; I'm a pinch flyer.

That was my impression from various posts and youtube clips I've seen of Fun Flys and the like.
