Servo installation query

G'day N7'ers, I have a burning question that hopefully you guys can shed some light on.

How many of you do or don't use the rubber grommets and brass bushings when mounting the servos on your nitro beasts? I understand that many electric flyers don't bother with either, but due to the extra vibrations in a nitro are they really necessary?

I have always used them, electric or nitro. Why not?
Electric: Synergy E7SE, Synergy E5, Logo 600SX, Henseleit TDR
Nitro: Synergy N5c, Synergy N7

I always use the rubber grommets and the spacer eyelets on both my nitro and electric machines. Definitely recommend that they be used on a nitro machine.

I have never used the eyelets. Nitro or electric. No issues to date. 
The servo plate does a good job of compressing the grommets evenly and I see no need.  The eyelets could actually prevent compression of the grommets...  IMHO ;D

I believe the purpose of the eyelets is to prevent over compression of the grommets. They control the amount of compression so the servo is held firmly enough to give good control but not so tight that they fail to provide any vibration isolation.

I use them in both Nitro and Electric.

In the past when I used eyelets and grommets I notice I had some movement of the servo when moving the controls. When I say movement I'm talking about enough to change the blade angle about a degree or 2 not loose like falling off. Checked the bolts and all where tight. I had spent so much time on setting up the head and servo for square all the linkages to be the same MM and pitch curves to be to an exact degree just to have the servos move changing the setting. I don't know if it was enough to notice in flight but was more than what I wanted to see on the work bench. Ever since then I stopped using both on nitro & electric. That was about 10 years ago and haven't had any servo problems. Not saying its correct that's just what works for me.

Not necessarily.  The eyelets serve a purpose when used with individual washers/screws but not so much when using a servo plate as with Synergy's.  I find that the eyelets can actually prevent sufficient compression of the grommet.  Again IMHO....  Personal preference..  Unless someone can provide hard data showing me that using the grommet with reduce vibrations I will continue on my present course...

I never used them until I went Futaba servos.  They have a little flange on them that the servo hold down doesn't quite fit over unless you use the rubbers and grommets.  Normally though I don't use them.

I don't use them on both my Goblins as the servos are mounted on their side, and rock easily with direct to swash control.

However, all my other (12!!) helis have the grommets installed, including the N7 and E7se.

If however, I were using all alloy servo's, I would not use any.

Probably should have mentioned, all the servos I use and did not use the rubbers and grommets were all alloy servos (Torqs and RJX).

Thanks for the replies fellas.

I'm running the RJX servos (alloy cases) and noticed that with the eyelets installed there is still a fair amount of movement of the servo even with the screws pinched up pretty tight. I think I'll remove the eyelets and squish the grommets up initially and see how she goes. If I find it's too sloppy in flight then I'll ditch the grommets too.
