tail blades moving (left/right) without moving on the tail shaft.
« on: September 08, 2014, 09:26:32 AM »
Hello. When I move the tail blades by hand left/right, they move without moving the arm. That means the tail is not stable. Unless it is not important .  I checked my other helicopters, and they do not have that play. They do not have that ball link sitting in the arm that moves the blades left/right. Do you have any upgrade that would eliminate that play.
The reason I am asking is that 550 is the only helicopter where I have a problem. The tail moves slowly left/right abit. I use a vbar on all my helicopters. I had to increase P setting to 110 and lower I to 60. IT helped, but I do not have to do it for any other heli. And it still not a 100%. Please let me know. (I use TURO bl9188 servo).

Can you post a video of the issue?

Ralph makes a metal bell crank that moves that ball:

I have it on one of my heli's and it works great.  I had to lap the ball down a smidge cause it was on the too snug side, but after that, nice and tight (no slop) but moved very freely.  Can use the same part on the E5 or E7SE.

Thank you . I ordered it.       Alsow Do you know how much longer the upgrade boom is. and how does it effect flying. I actuly wanted a longer boom. The regular one fils a bit short. I did not know if it exists. ?

You can put on a stretch boom (need torque tube, control rod as well) and make it an E5s.  I'm currently in the middle of doing that, but I'm putting on 626 main blades as well.  I'm not sure if anyone has stretched and kept the 556 mains, how it flys. I think the stretch booms are 715mm long. Maybe someone else can chime in and answer that for you.

Why are you changing it to a stretched?

Why are you changing it to a stretched?

Stretching is normally done to swing longer blades without risking blade strikes.

Hi Erutsyn,

Sorry to see your having an issue with the tail, but lets see if we can sort it for you.  :)

It's very difficult to see from the video but it does look like it is in the pitch slider assembly. The tail bellcrank appears to stay pretty stationary and the movement seems to be located around the area of the pitch slider mechanism. Particularly where the slider ball locates into the arm of the plastic bellcrank.

It might be worth having a look at that area as the ball may be loose and it could be rocking causing this excessive movement. I usually install mine with a tiny amount of CA to help secure it.

Would it be possible to have a good picture of the tail assembly, to see the tail pitch slider and bellcrank?

You could, it you wish use the SE tail slider from the E7se (Part Number:200-411), this is a complete metal tail pitch slider which removes the need for the star locking waser on the assembly.

Hope this helps and let us know how you go.
Cheers
Ross

I have two NIP Synergy E7SE metal tail sliders 200-411.  I only need one, so I can sell the other.

Hard to tell from the video but it looks like your pitch plate is sliding on the brass. This can be solved by loctiting the pitch plate to the brass and tightening the star washer.

Thanks,

Matt

I figured it out . The (107-103 2mm Pivot Ball Short) in the plate is not holding. The thread is gone. I was lucky that I did not crash. I gess I need a new part  (115-319 Tail Bearing Ring) that the ball is being scrued into.

Do you know if there is an metal upgrade for that part?

Yes, if you wanted to replace the entire slider assembly, you can use the part that Curmudgeon mentioned above (200-411).

Hello Curmudgeon. How much do you want for that part (Is it new or used?)  and how do you want me to pay for it.

It's NIP.  I purchased 2 of them; one for the E5 and the other for the E5 stretch.  I'm going to be selling the E5 stretch air frame, so I don't need this item any more.
