be careful at first doing slow autos with a very light disk loading. The only negative with a low disk loading is it's more difficult to speed up the blades if you get them real slow in the auto. The energy to speed them back up is stored in the mass of the heli, and there isn't much in the setups with really low disk loadings. yes you can come down much slower and have longer autos since they float a lot better, but if you get a little too slow it's much more difficult to speed them back up if needed.  :)

Thanks for the advice. Would it be better to get the hang of doing autos on my heavier Goblins before doing them on the E5SS?

not really, just different.  With a heavyweight, you can screw up and still spin the head back up. However, it comes down quicker so you tend to screw up more. With a low disk loading you can float it down and it's like everything is happening in slow motion,..lots of time to think. however, if you get the head too slow it can be difficult to spool it back up.   It's one of those 6 of one, half dozen of the other scenarios,..they're just different.

With that being said,.. would you like to repair damage after a  13+ lb heli smacks the ground, or after a 10- lb heli smacks the ground?   I know what my answer is :)

Lol! My answer is the same! I started doing autos from about 2' when on landing. I know these aren't like doing them from altitude but it got me used to switching into idle.

One addition to the build. I got a Fusuno canopy from Alan at Helilids. I got the canopy he designed, the Raygen!8) 8) 8)

Dean, if you are interested in testing some blades I have a few you could try.
Gary, you need to plan a trip to Virginia this year so you can teach a few more pilots about rule #1.

ROFL
At my age, I generally ignore rule #1 these days :)

Saw your event listed, promptly opened google maps,.. and saw 746 miles. Don't think so but I'll talk to Josh.  He's been infatuated with high power little quads lately, so not sure about his interest in a heli event.

we had unseasonably warm weather this weekend so I got to get my SS back in the air after the mishap a few weeks ago.  Also flew the "S" (600) again quite a bit.  Got the tail modified on the 700 to 5.4 gearing, and the tail is much better. It was very good but if I really worked at it I could blow out the tail in some things like fast sideways flight at low rpm.  Still possible but very rare and takes a lot of effort. Won't normally happen. Going back to 695's instead of 715's is a drag.  It's as if I removed half the power in low rpm mode. Probably have two dozen sets of blades in range but all 690~695 :(  Can't really go with 716's since I want the 115's on the tail. Maybe I'm just too picky.

Get your's in the air dean!,.. it's a great machine.
