Update: Ok so I (Chris) got my N5c in the air Sunday long enough to determine two things, one the gyro placement seems to be good and two, I missed the fact of a slightly bent main shaft following the tip over last week, dang! :P Upon disassembly I also discovered a problem I created with the elevator bell crank assembly so that was a good thing that I may not have found for some time, if at all. I forget that it has been about 8 years since I built my Raptor and I guess, fortunately, I did not have a lot of experience with crash repair until recently and I assumed (there's that word) since the head axle was OK the main shaft was too, uh NO!

Had a great day at the field anyway watching Chris get his dialed in (almost) and getting some flights on my Raptor. :)

I am figuring that since I am having a bit of trouble initially it means my N5c will have a long and prosperous life!

Hope this weather holds out!

Bob,
If it makes you feel any better...

I swapped out the HC for a VBAR. I decided to use the HC on the forthcoming E5 and since the VBAR has GOV that would be a good swap.  Unfortunately that idea hit me around 3am sunday morning.  Well at 4am I am installing the VBAR.  I have done a bunch of VBAR installs but only two with nitro gov.
Well I neglected to check the direction of throw on the throttle servo.
Needless to say I was surprised Sunday morning at the field.  Had a hot start and trashed the clutch liner :(
Stupid..Stupid! I knew better.

Cheers
Alan

Been there, done that! There's nothing like the smell of burnt clutch liner in the morning!  :-[

I did such a good job that I didn't even have to carve out any of the old one.  Nothing left.
Of course I had to clean off all of that green dust! :D

Yikes, did the clutch bell make it out ok?

I think the worst part is having to clean that dust up, it gets everywhere!

Hey Alan,

Yeah, it makes me feel a little better, I hate it for you of course but I was thinking earlier I seem to be the only one posting my troubles & others are posting pics & videos of flying...So I thank you for that.

I still think my N5c is going to be tons of fun and very reliable in the very near future! I hate that the time of year is coming when nice days for flying are more few and far between and I have not been able to take advantage of them, such is life! Damn things looks good though, even when not flying!

Let us know when yours is back in the air and I'll keep you posted as well.

Later.

Hey Alan,

Every trade or profession has their little phrases, I'm sure you've heard "lefty-losey, righty tighty", yes? (I won't go into the four plumbers rules.) I digress, the following is the one I apply to OS Engine carbs "clockwise-CLOSED" Maybe this might help in the future!

Goofing around between renders at work!

Small update on my N5c, been flying it as hard as I can, and have found that I will probably need to put a header tank on it. Without a pumped engine, I'm getting rich runs at the beginning but leaning out towards the end. Adding a header tank isn't a big deal, but will have to do until I can get a pumped engine!
