Interesting that there appear to be some folks who need a shim and some who don't even using the same motors. (OS105)  Wonder if the motor mount holes in the frames are just a bit off between kits?  Either way, there appear to be a number of engine shim pieces from MA available through Ron's HP if anyone stateside is interested.

Well it cannot be the motor crank cases can it? The OS105 I assume is cast in the same moulds, and the lugs would be milled in the same jig so that the underside is dead centre with the crank centre line.

Either way, shims would be so inexpensive to be included in a kit, these issues would not have been found.

Did ALL of the team guys who received their kits first have no issue with mesh? I cannot get my main shaft through the one way the mesh is so tight!!

My pre-prod kit was fine, too.

Well mine has, and I've built dozens of heli's, so I am confident it's not me. I build for other people as well, including 3 TDR's and 2 Minicopter Diabolo's. I own 14 helis, of which 9 are 700 size.

I think I will need a minimum of 1mm under my motor lugs, as I cannot even get the main shaft through the auto hub sleeve.

Rob, see your from UK, got mine from Fast Lad in UK so maybe our batch of frames had a glitch, unlikely everything fits perfect otherwise. just putting it down to tolerances. Agree shims included wouldn't cost the earth!

I haven't read anyone's post that would lead me to believe that anyone doubts you.  You asked the question about pre-production kits so we answered.

2 of us with pre production kits had the same issue, me with the 105 and another member with a thunder tiger.  He swapped out the TT for an OS 105 and still had to shim his out as well.

I'm thinking something may be up with the OS cases because most of the people I see asking about shims are using the OS 105.

That could explain it, perhaps OS have out sourced the manufacture of the crank cases, and they are a fraction off what some of the previous motors have been machined to.

The difficulty for me here is, the N7 has come with slotted clutch stack mounting holes, but not the motor mounts. So, unless Synergy were to sell shims, where else would we buy them? Obviously I was lucky picking up old stock of N9 ones, but these are discontinued. I know of no other 'current' airframes on the market that use shims. I would have preferred to have seen adjustable motor mounts as well to cater for all motor variations like the ones manufactured by KDE for the T-Rex 700n. These have been perfect on my old 700LE.

Maybe Matt will add them to the kit in the future.  For now, if you don't want to make your own, there are some here:

Sorry Rodney, I did not mean for my reply to sound offish, I just thought I would point out that I'm an experienced builder, not a newbee, and this is a real problem I have with my kit.

Again, I'm not seeing anyone disputing that you need shims for your kit/motor combination.  There are several posts in this thread with options for either making your own or buying some shims.  Hell, if you want me to, I can make a set in the machine shop I have access to and mail them to you.  Shoot me your mailing address if you want to go that route.

Interesting posts, I own 3 N7's and haven't had one issue regarding shims, I own Many Synergys and the N5/N5c does require shims and sometimes it doesn't depending on the power plant. This is the first I have heard about this. It certainly a builders model and some modifications may be needed. Good luck with your N7.

Best regards,

Kevin
